Cyberbullying Policy
At Ummi’s Learning Center, we are dedicated to maintaining a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment for all students, staff, and volunteers. We do not tolerate any form of harassment, intimidation, or bullying, including cyberbullying, in our virtual school community.
Students’ Rights
Every student has the right to:
Learn in a safe and friendly environment.
Be treated with respect and dignity.
Receive support from caring adults when needed.
What is Cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying involves using electronic communication devices to willfully and repeatedly harm or harass others through text, images, or videos. Examples include but are not limited to:
Sending mean, false, or hurtful messages about a student or group of students.
Using stories, cartoons, pictures, or jokes to mock or belittle others.
Sharing embarrassing or harmful materials about someone.
Trickery through electronic communication to make a student say inappropriate things.
Posting pictures of another student without permission.
Such behavior disrupts the learning environment and violates a student’s right to safety
Technologies Used in Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying can occur through various electronic means, including but not limited to:
Social networking sites
Chat rooms and discussion groups
Instant messaging
Computers and personal digital devices
Cell phones and cameras
Webcams
As new technologies emerge, they may also be included in this policy.
Consequences for Cyberbullying
When a cyberbullying incident is reported, Ummi’s Learning Center will:
Conduct a thorough investigation.
If confirmed, appropriate disciplinary action will be taken, which may include suspension or removal from the school.
Repeated or severe cases may involve legal action. Parents of the victim may seek legal recourse against the bully if necessary
Parent Action Steps for Responding to Cyberbullying
If your child experiences cyberbullying, we encourage parents to:
Save and print any evidence of harassment.
Identify the individual(s) involved.
Report the incident immediately to the teacher or administration.
Advise your child to ignore or block the bully online.
Participate in mediation meetings with school administration and the other student’s parents.
Consider legal action if the bullying persists despite school intervention.
